Family Learning Centers

The Long Beach Public Library has a Family Learning Center located in each neighborhood library throughout the city. These Centers are due to the efforts of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation and its generous donors.

What Is A Family Learning Center?

The Centers are designed to provide supervised homework assistance for students on a drop-in basis. An enhanced collection of homework support materials and computer-based learning opportunities will enrich student's study skills and develop parent participation and support.

Self-help instruction, Homework Helpers, volunteers, and library staff assistance are directed at achieving homework, reading, and writing goals.

The Centers provide:

  • Homework help for students in grades Kindergarten through 8.
  • Computers with word processing software to help students complete their homework assignments.
  • Homework Helpers to assist the students in completing and understanding their assignments.
  • Books, magazines, newspapers, on-line services, and databases to support student's students' information needs.
  • Reference material related to homework assignments.
  • Assistance to parents using library resources.
  • Computers and word processing software for use by parents.

Along with these services, parents have the opportunity to interface with library staff and learn how the library can help their children.

Call your neighborhood library nearest you to find out when the Family Learning Center is open.
